Salt Bridge Vies for Nominations in Best Original Song Category at Oscars

Multiple songs from the Indo – Australian social drama Salt Bridge are among the 74 eligible entries contending for nominations in the original song category at the 88th Oscars. The Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences today revealed the list of contentions for nominations in the original song category.

Seven Hindi songs from the movie have made it to the long list. The songs are “Aankhon Me�?, “Samaye Dil’, “Bachpana Thaa�?, “Kanpne Lage Tum�?, Kyaa Bataaun Tujhe�?, “Le Jaaye Jo Door Tumse�?, “Na Jaane Kitni Door�? and “Sookha Hi Rang Daalo�?.

Salt Bridge, directed by Abhijit Deonath is starred by bollywood heart throb Rajeev Khandelwal, National Award winning actress Usha Jadhav and Chelsie Preston Crayford. In addition to Salt Bridge, Malayalam drama, Jalam also has won contentions for the nominations at the Oscar race.

Other strong competitors in the list are The Weeknd’s “Earned It” and Ellie Goulding’s “Love Me Like You Do” from erotic movie “Fifty Shades of Grey”; “See You Again” from “Furious Seven”; “Writing’s On The Wall” from “Spectre” and “Simple Song #3″ from “Youth”.

The 88th Academy Awards nominations will be announced on January 14, 2016.

India’s first charity film directed by M. Padmakumar has got another global prestigious accolade before its theatrical release. Multiple songs from the movie are now in the contention for nominations in the Original Song Category for the 88th Academy Awards. The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences today announced that 74 songs from eligible feature length motion pictures released in 2015 are in contention for nominations in the category.

Bhoomiyilenganumundo..’, ‘Kooduvaykkam..’, ‘Yaathra Manoradhamerum’ and ‘Pakalppathichari’ are the songs from Jalam that are competing for a nomination in the category. Lyrics for these songs are penned by Dr. Madhu Vasudevan and National award winning music director Ouseppachan composed the tunes that perfectly sink with the mood of the movie.

Jalam, is produced by Aries Group. The movie’s cast includes Priyanka Nair, Jain Syriac, Prakash Bare, Sethulakshmi and P. Balachandran. Jalam movie revolves around a young woman who struggles to own a piece of land to live in. “We are all happy with the Academy’s announcement, with this, we will be heading forward to the nomination campaign for Oscars�?, said Mr. Sohan Roy, the producer and CEO of Aries Group while responding to the declaration made by the Academy.

Prior to its release, Jalam has been screened at the All Lights India International Film Festival which held at Kochi. Screened in a packed theatre, the film had earned rave reviews among the national and international delegates at the festival.

With having a total of four songs selected by the academy, the movie Jalam raises India’s hope at the Oscar race for nominations in the original song category.

The 88th Academy Awards nominations will be announced on Thursday, January 14, 2016.

Staying hot in the International Film Festival circuit is not at all an easy task even for a year, but ‘DAM 999’ has proved it wrong as the movie is continuing its dream run in various International festivals even after four years of its theatrical release.

The recent news about the movie is regarding its triumph in the Trindiefest Film Festival. The Sohan Roy directorial won the Best Film in the foreign language category, and thus, the movie made the Indian flag fly high in the festival. ‘DAM 999’ shared the award in this category with German movie ‘37’.

‘DAM 999’ is a movie which portrays nine emotions of a human in the backdrop of an outdated dam. The film is widely touted as the first Indian – Hollywood venture, and the movie upon its release was well received by both critics and audiences. The movie star Vimala Raman, Ashish Vidyarthi, Joushua Frederich Smith and Rajit Kapoor in the lead roles.

‘Wildlike’ and ‘Minds Eye’ were selected as the Best drama films in the festival. ‘The Perfect Husband’ won the award for the ‘Best horror film’ while ‘The Antwerp Dolls’ was chosen as the ‘Best Action Film’.

Arnie to be honored at Zurich Film Festival

Arnold Schwarzenegger, the man who has been mesmerizing millions of film audiences for the past three decades is all set to receive the ‘Golden Icon’ award at this year’s Zurich Film Festival. This year’s festival will be conducted from September 24 – October 04, 2015, and the Universal action icon will receive the honor on September 30 at Zurich Corso Cinema.

Golden Icon’ award is considered to be the most prestigious award at the Zurich Film Festival. The award is usually given to impeccable personalities who have given their life for the betterment of movie industry.

ZFF artistic director Karl Spoerri said that Zurich Film Festival is privileged to welcome Arnie to the event, and it is their most proud moment to honor the legendary actor with the ‘Golden Icon’ award.

Sue Brooks, the acclaimed Australian filmmaker known for his movies ‘Japanese Story’, ‘Road to Nhill’ etc is now busy with the promotion works of her new flick, ‘Looking for Grace’. The movie was recently premiered at the Venice Film Festival, and it was opened to critical appreciation.

Recently, she revealed more details about her upcoming projects which she will start working soon. She will be working in two movies in the upcoming days, and one of them will be the adaptation of Alex Miller’s novel, Lovesong. This movie will showcase an intense story of love between an Australian guy and a Tunisian woman.

Alison Tilson will script and produce this movie. Sue Brooks revealed that this movie will be all about love, and it will also have intense elements of seperation and displacement.

Brooks has plans to make a comedy movie too in the near future. This flick is being named, ‘Not Quite Waiting In the Wings’, and this film too will be scripted by Alison Tilson.

David Ansen selected as PSIFF lead programmer

The next edition of Palmspring International Film festival is scheduled from January 01-11, 2015. The festival which is growing bigger year by year has this time roped some eminent personalities in the critic arena for making the event an impeccable one. David Ansen, a former Newsweek film critic who has recently worked as the artistic director of the Los Angeles Film Festival has joined PSIFF as the lead programmer.

David Ansen will head a team of six people, and they will be guided by festival artistic director Helen du Toit. David Ansen will take care of acquiring films from distributors and sales agents and he will also play a crucial role in short listing the films which are being submitted for the festival.

The CinefestOZ Festival — which awards Australia’s richest film prize of $100,000 — is held in Western Australia, and this year’s judges included co-patron and jury chair David Wenham, actress Sarah Snook, director Wayne Blair, film producer Liz Kearney and casting director Annie Murtagh Monks.

“Putuparri And The Rainmakers had a story and characters that were so compelling and emotionally engaging,�? said Wenham, “told in such a way that it reinforced the power of cinema to entertain, touch us deeply and stay with us forever.�?

The prodigious award will be used in part to help distribute the film to a wider audience. Producer John Moore said the prize money will allow them “to get the film out to a lot more people than we otherwise would have been able to [reach].
