Socially Relevant Film Festival aims to make it big
The 2nd edition of ‘Socially Relevant Film Festival‘, New York is scheduled from March 16 – 22, 2015. This year, the festival will screen movies from more than 30 countries, and they will handle a wide range of social isssues like, women empowerment, gun control and race relations, climate change to LGBT rights, The environment and climate change, The US Economy and Oil rush etc.
Like any other International Film Festivals, ‘Socially Relevant Film Festival‘ also contains a line up of top notch movies, master classes, industry panels and post screening parties.
This festival aims to raise awareness to social problems and other issues among the film loving common people.
“I strongly believe that the violence portrayed on our screens and in video games is responsible for the banalization of evil in our societies and the proliferation of violent forms of communication. Most films today encourage mis-representation, reinforce stereotypes and create an escapist passive attitude in youth and adults towards major social issues. In reverse, simply by focusing more on socially relevant themes, positive social change can be promoted through the powerful medium of cinema”, said Nora Armani, the founding artistic director of the festival.
This year’s festival opens with the US Premiere of ‘Come to My Voice‘ directed by Hϋseyin Karabey. The film had its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival, 2014, and upon its screening, it received highly positive reviews from both critics and audiences alike.
