Renowned Palestinian filmmaker Annemarie Jacir has revealed the details of her next movie. The movie which is titled, ‘Wajib‘ will showcase the life of an estranged father who tries to reconnect with his son.
“It’s a dark comedy about the relationship between a father and son, who has returned home after a long absence”, said Annemarie.
The film will portray a story in the backdrop of one day, and the incidents will take place in the City of Nazreth. As per Annemarie, the film is loaded with lots of dark humor.
“The film will also touch on the situation of Palestinians – the economic and social implications — but not in an overtly obvious way”, added Annemarie.
The director is in Cannes now, and she is busy talking to potential co-producing partners and sales companies for this new movie.
Ossama Bawardi, a long term collaborator of the director is producing this flick. Saleh Bakri has been reportedly signed to play the lead role in the movie.
Apart from this new venture, Annemarie is also busy with another movie, ‘Trojan Woman’ in which she does the role of co producer. The movie is being directed by Dictynna Hood, and it will showcase the impact of war on women.

As per reports, a biopic film based on the life of Nobel Prize winner and Legendary Diplomat Dag Hammarskjold is getting ready. The pre production works of the movie have already been started. The movie will be directed by Per Fly. Film Vast will be producing this flick.
Per Fly has already proved his expertise in directing biopic movies, as his film ‘Waltz for Monica’, a biopic of Swedish jazz star Monica Zetterlund was a critical and commercial success.
The makers of the movie has titled this project, ‘The Killing of Hammarskjold’. The movie will showcase the life of Dag Hammarskjold during his tenure as the Secretary General of the United Nations.
“Dag Hammarskjold belongs to the prominent leaders in our history who lost their lives in their pursuit of freedom and desire to make a difference in the world. We want to capture the real Dag Hammarskjold, a truth-loving person placed in an impossible situation bordered by violence and deceit”, said Per Fly.
If everything goes well, the shooting of the film will start by the first quarter of 2017.
The 69th edition of the much reputed Edinburgh Film Festival is scheduled from June 17 – 28, 2015. The recent news from the corner is regarding the finalization of closing film in the festival. As per official reports, the festival will close with the screening of ‘Iona‘ a Scottish Film based on an island.
This will be the world premiere of ‘Iona‘ which is directed by Scott Graham. The film stars Ruth Negga, Douglas Henshall, Tom Brooke, Michelle Duncan, Ben Gallagher and Sorcha Groundsell in prominent roles.
‘Iona’ is Scott Graham’s second movie after the much successful flick ‘Shell’ which was released in 2012.
“I discovered many films and filmmakers at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. Edinburgh was my home all through my twenties and it was in venues like Filmhouse and the Cameo where I learned the value of the stories we tell and the emotions we share. Renowned Italian Film maker and writer Marco Bellocchio will be honored with the reputed Pardo d’onore Swisscom at this year’s Locarno Film Festival which will run through August 5 – 15.
Marco Bellocchio is not a new face at the Locarno Film Festival. His debut directorial venture, ‘Fists in the Pocket’ was screened at Locarno in 1965, and there it won the Vela d’argento. He was also the President of the jury in Locarno during the 1997 and 1998 festivals.
As a part of the special Piazza Grande screening, ‘Fists in the Pocket’ will be again shown before the audience this year on August 14, 2015.
The acclaimed film maker will also head a master class in the Spazio Cinema.
